2023

So, here we are, officially past the pandemic. I am booking fewer events this year, but it has little to do with the fact that covid is here to stay. It’s simply that I’m getting older. I’ve had the great privilege to be a professional henna artist for 24 years. That's longer than I have ever done anything, except draw. I will say that though I settled into the lock down like I settle into comfortable old clothes, I am really happy to be back at the festivals. I’m mostly doing my old favorites, along with a few new, promising ones, and I’ve missed the interactions. Henna taught me long ago that I like people a lot more that I ever expect to. I enjoy when they share their stories, their likes and dislikes, their laughter, even their worries and troubles. The intimacy of henna adornment engenders a personal connection with complete strangers. The contemplation of what imagery the client chooses to wear is an invitation to learn more about their personalities and inner lives. It’s a richness I didn’t even realize I was missing. I’m so very grateful for that.

My charming little booth all set up and ready for me to meet and adorn new friends.
